Jonathan Davis Family Cemetery

This cemetery is located on the old Jonathan DAVIS Farm on H-Y between Foley, Mo. 

and Brussels, Mo. (Snow Hill, Mo.)  Cemetery sets back about 1/4 mi., in weeds, 

behind small house at end of a long driveway on left side of highway going east from 

Brussels, approximately half-way to Foley.



Row 1 -- unmarked grave -- easy to tell by the

         way the ground is mounded.

Row 2 -- three graves marked by fieldstone,

                             no markings.



Row 3 -- DAVIS, Ephraim F.   1867-1932



A story related to me by Mrs. Josie HOPKINS SMITH about this cemetery is that one 

of the graves is Malachi DAVIS, brother of Jonathan.  Malachi was killed during 

the Slicker War of Lincoln Co., Mo. 1843-1845.



Also that one of the graves is William DAVIS, son of Jonathan and Elizabeth, who 

drowned while swimming his horse across the river ford on the Cuivre River at 

Frenchman's Bluff Crossing. He was about 8 years old at the time of his death.  

Mrs. Smith says she knows he is buried here as she was a friend of his and attended 

his funeral and was present at his burial.  This took place in the 1880's.  

Mrs. Josie HOPKINS SMITH is at present living in Winfield, Mo. and as of April

1979 was 104 years old.
